WHCD Kick-off Events!

The Creative Coalition Salute to Blue Star Families

Reception: American Red Cross Great Hall of Service; dinner: Ritz Carlton Hotel; after-party: Lani Hay's private residence.

Lanmark Technology Inc. CEO Lani Hay and Elle magazine will host an intimate star-studded dinner for the Creative Coalition, a non-profit arts advocacy group of leaders in the entertainment community.  The cocktail reception will feature the premiere of the Coalition's new PSA supporting America's military families.

Celebs expected to attend include Tim Daly, David Arquette, Jason Biggs, Marlon Wayans, Jack McBrayer, Cheryl Hines, Omar Epps, Alyssa Milano and Patricia Arquette.

“be a STAR” Launch

The Creative Coalition, headed by actor Tim Daly (“Private Practice”), and WWE are launching a new anti-bullying alliance “be a STAR”  (STAR stands for “show tolerance and respect”).  The initiative, which brings together leaders in education and non-profits, seeks to promote a positive environment and will distribute an anti-bullying teacher’s aide to schools across the nation.

Emerging Voices in Media Reception Hosted by Rosario Dawson

Actress Rosario Dawson, Maria Teresa Kumar from Voto Latino and Bruswick Group’s David Sutphen will entertain guests on the roof of the Hay-Adams Hotel at a reception for “Emerging Voices in Media.”  The event will follow Voto Latino’s April 28th Emerging Voices in Media forum that is meant to bring together journalists, policymakers, leaders, and artists to share insights and discuss opportunities to break barriers in media.  Founded in 2004 by actress Rosario Dawson and political analyst Maria Teresa Kumar, Voto Latino is the leading non-partisan Latino youth civic engagement organization.

Former Senator Chris Dodd, who is the new chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), will host a reception and dinner at his home the night before the WHCD.

2011 Garden Brunch

Perhaps the most famous of WHCD events, which is normally held at the home of Tammy Haddad and Ted Greenberg.   Because of increasing paparazzi in recent years, the location has been moved to the historic Georgetown home of the late Katherine Graham.

This year’s brunch will benefit CURE Epilepsy and the White Ribbon Alliance.
